Atwima Mponua Rural Bank Plc (AMRB) established as one of the over 140 Rural Banks in Ghana, was registered on the 16th day of November, 1984 with License No 083 by Bank of Ghana, Certificate of Incorporation No. C-23026 of 14th day of October 1983 and Certificate to Commence Business on the 16th day of November 1984 (Which had been reviewed on the 13th July 2017).
The idea of establishing the Bank was initially mooted by Mr. Patrick Kofi Owusu of Toase, one of the founders who was inspired by Nana Kwame Owusu, the then Board Chairman of Kwamanman Rural Bank Limited.
Other founders namely Mr. A. E. K. Antwi, Mr. B. K. Amankwa, Nana Opoku Kwabena, and Nana Ofori Acheampong (Ankobeahene of Toase) embraced the idea and supported financially through printing of official receipts for share floating.
The initial share value was GH¢0.01 per share. Subsequently the Bank's operations became pronounced through promoting of the "Akuafo Cheques System". Today, AMRB shares are owned by the Community and the General Public.
Atwima Mponua Rural Bank was founded in Toase by visionary community leaders committed to rural financial empowerment.
The bank expanded to serve more communities, opening agencies across the Ashanti Region including Abuakwa, Akropong, Suame, and more.
On 14th August 2020, Atwima Mponua commissioned its first ATM Services at the Head Office in Toase — a landmark achievement graced by Nana Yim Awere Ababio II.
Now partnered with Star Life Insurance and MTN Mobile Money, AMRB continues innovating to bring modern banking to rural Ghana.
